THE ULTIMATE MEDICAL GIFT GUIDE

How is it already the holidays? I feel like I just started intern year! I've had six months of intern year under my belt and with that time, I've come to find some really useful gadgets and items that have made my life easier and wanted to share with everyone just in time for the holiday season. If you're having trouble finding a gift for the medical professional in your life, look below for some ideas!




For the Fashionista or Person Who Loves Comfort: Medelita Jacket and Scrubs

 

• I COMPLETELY adore this company so much. I've worked with many scrub companies in the past but without fail, Medelita's items are almost worn daily during residency. 
• My favorite thing to wear is the Kinetic's Scrub Jacket because it fits perfectly underneath my white coat and it doesn't have a collar that pokes out at the top. I wear this everyday in the hospital now that it's cold outside. The best part is, you can also embroider it for an additional cost.

For the Person Who's on Their Feet All Day: Compression socks- Retail: $19.99 for 3 pack

• I swear by these compression socks. I've noticed that I have less swelling in my legs during my surgery service by wearing these for 14 hours a day. Also, if you have to wear those thin scrubs into work in the winter, these are a lifesaver when walking outside.

For the Person Who Appreciates Beverages: Mixologist World Tumbler Retail: $19.99

 

• I love finding dupes of popular products that allow me to save some money. If you've ever wanted the YETI tumblers, I'd highly suggest the Mixologist World tumbler instead for $10 cheaper. I've gone into the hospital at 5am with ice coffee and left the hospital at 7pm with ice still in this cup. If you need more convincing, here is a video comparing the two tumblers. 

For the Soon-To-Be Medical Professional: Littmann Cardiology Stethoscope- Retail starting at $177

 

• If you have someone in your life who is about to embark on their medical journey, one of the best gifts you could give is their first stethoscope. My mom gifted me my first Littmann Cardiology III right before my first year of medical school and I will forever keep it. 
• Littmann stethoscopes are a standard in the medical world and they recently launched the Cardiology IV, which shows improvement from the III not only in sound but is less weight, more bendable (to fit into your white coats), and come in some pretty chic colors.
• I highly suggest purchasing this through www.allheart.com because they give you the option to engrave it for an additional $15 and it helps prevent loss in the future (I can tell you this from personal experience lol).

For the Future Cardiologist or Fancy Medical Professional: EKO stethoscope- Retail: $299

 

• If you really love someone in the medical field and you want to get them one REALLY great gift, this stethoscope is like the Cadillac of stethoscopes. 
• This stethoscope has a dual function of being both a regular stethoscope and an electronic one that amplifies all sound heard through the bells- all with one little switch on the stethoscope. 
• It really is impressive how much louder you can hear with this stethoscope and the best part is, you can download the Eko app on your digital device and save the recording of the heart and breath sounds to share with others to provide an overall accurate picture of your patient's health. For the Hard-to-Wake Medical Professional: Philips Light Alarm Clock- Retail: $40

• Light alarm clocks are the reason I can wake up at 3:30am and function while getting ready. The clock that I own currently isn't sold on Amazon anymore so I've linked the fancier and higher quality Philips one instead but the concept is the same.
• Set your alarm time and alarm music. Thirty minutes before your alarm goes off, this light slowly turns on to mimic a "sunrise" to help stimulate you to wake up. I use this every single day and while it's still not the most fun to wake up early, it helps you just enough to get your day going!

For the Organized Medical Professional and/or Medical Student Before Starting Residency- Whitecoat Clipboard- Retail: $25

• If you're looking for a practical gift for a medical professional in-training, this is great for them to keep organized while on the wards. The clipboard folds in half and fits perfectly into a white coat pocket and also has many useful tables and values on the back. These also come with nursing-related tables as well!
